As a transit hub, Guangzhou is a city with sound infrastructure and convenient transportation. Centering on the urban construction for the Asian Games, Guangzhou continues to advance its major infrastructure construction, with the focus on transportation. The second phase of Baiyun Airport Project, the third phase of Nansha Harbor Zone Project, the third phase of the dredging project for seaward course as well as the New Guangzhou Express Railway Station, Wuhan-Guangzhou Passenger Traffic Lines, BRT systems and 7 subway lines are in progress, indicating the completion of the biggest readjustment and optimization of transportation network in Guangzhou’s history.  In 2010, Guangzhou will embrace the 16th Asian Games with a modern transport network, with “AHI & EF” (standing for airport, harbor, info-port, expressways, and fast track transport).

Airport: As one of the three national hub airports, the New Baiyun International Airport of Guangzhou is by far one of the largest, the most advanced and the most modern international airport in the nation. In 2010, all the airport’s renovation projects will be put into service before the Asian Games starts. At that time, New Baiyun International Airport will become a comprehensive hub airport, with great influence to China, Southeast Asia and the Middle East. It connects Europe, the United States, Australia and the Pacific region with 90 international airlines with a passenger capacity of 40 million. The terminal area will cover 50 million square meters with 52 security inspection passages and 107 gate positions.

Harbor: Guangzhou Port, located in the convergence of the east, west and north of the Pearl River, is now developed into an international maritime port accessible to more than 300 harbors of more than 80 countries and regions. When the third phase of the Nansha Harbor Project and the third phase of the dredging project for seaward course are completed, Guangzhou Port will become a modern competitive international port with rational layout, sound function, scientific management and remarkable economic efficiency.

The Information Port: Guangzhou has set its goal of developing the city into “Digital Guangzhou” and international “information port” with information-based composite index ranking the domestic forefront. In 2010, Guangzhou aims at growing into a national information model city, with RMB 450 million yuan being invested in the Digital Asian Games Project.

The Fast Track: Guangzhou will become one of the country’s four railway transport centers. As Guangzhou New Railway Station has become the leading station of Guangzhou’s railway transport, the Beijing-Guangzhou Express Railway with a speed of 300 km per hour will be located in the New Station, which is known as the Asia’s biggest super-speed railway pivot and the Wuhan-Guangzhou Express Railway with a speed of 350 km per hour also in operation.

The Express Way: The urban road framework has been basically completed. By 2010, Guangzhou will possess nine subway lines with a total mileage of 255 kilometers, covering almost all of the urban districts and connecting to major cities in the PRD Besides, Guangzhou’s Tianhe Road, Zhongshan Road, Huangpu Road , East Corridor line of BRT are also in operation.
