Guangzhou Ranks 1st in Courier Services

More than 3.33 million parcels are collected and delivered a day in Guangzhou.
Couriers nationwide has delivered more than 10 billion parcels so far this year, with the annual amount of parcel deliveries exceeding 10 billion for the first time, the National Post Office announced at a press conference on October 27. In the first three quarters of this year, couriers in Guangzhou handled 940 million parcels, the highest amount among Chinese cities, becoming the first city in China to have monthly delivery amount exceeding 100 million parcels.
According to the National Post Office, the amount of courier delivery soared from 1 billion in 2006 to 9.19 billion in 2013, averaging an annual growth of 37.3% and turning China into the world's second largest market for courier services. In the first three quarters of this year, couriers in China handled 9.39 billion parcels, up 52% year-on-year, generating business revenues of RMB140.9 billion, up 41.6%.
By region, the parcel delivery amount and year-on-year revenue growth rate of the Yangtze River Delta, the Pearl River Delta, and the Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei region exceeded the national average. The three regions together handled 6.8 billion parcels, accounting for 72.4% of the national total.
The top five cities in terms of delivery amount in the first three quarters are Guangzhou, Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen, and Hangzhou. In that period, Guangzhou handled 940 million parcels, becoming the first city in China to have monthly delivery amount exceeding 100 million parcels.
Guangzhou is expected to see an upsurge in parcel deliver in November 11, the Chinese "Singles Day", for which e-commerce operators will launch aggressive promotional campaigns. |
