Guangzhou's FDI made an obvious acceleration driven by the Asian Games. It was revealed at the symposium that Guangzhou had approved the establishment of 772 FDI enterprises in the first 10 months, representing an increase of 14.1% over the same period last year.. Contracted foreign capital hit 3.602 billion US dollars, an increase of  9.17% over last year; and likewise the amount of foreign capital actually used reached 3.620 billion US dollars, an increasing of 4.86%.

Xiao Zhenyu, the Chief of the Bureau of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation of Guangzhou Municipality, commenting on the Guangzhou investment surge, driven by the Asian Games as revealed from the pleasing high quantity FDI enterprises newly approved and established in the first 10 months this year, stated on a review of these statistics that not only had the Asian Games  improved Guangzhou's popularity and influence in Asia and even the world, but had also brought huge intangible capital to Guangzhou's foreign trade, foreign investment utilization and foreign economic cooperation.

In answer to the investment passion shown by the consuls of Asian countries and regions in Guangzhou, Xiao Zhenyu said the Municipal Government would make every effort to continue to provide better and easier services to foreign businessmen in Guangzhou. Further that Guangzhou will also make full use of the positive influence of the Guangzhou Asian Games to enlarge it's cooperation strength with Asian countries and regions, promote Guangzhou's construction developments strengthen its standing as an international metropolis serving the nation and committed to the world economy. He concluded his speech by stating that it is further intended to advance further Guangzhou's capacity to better allocate resources in the regional economy and strengthen Guangzhou's ability serve as a major driving commercial hub for Asia and even the whole Asia-Pacific area.
