On the afternoon of Dec. 5th, Wan Qingliang, mayor of Guangzhou conducted an inspection on barrier-free facilities for the upcoming Asian Para Games in the Baiyun International Airport area.. Mayor Wan said that the opportunities of the Para Games should be fully harnessed to build internationalized and people-oriented barrier-free facilities, so that a pleasant city environment could be created in which people with disability could travel with ease and safety.
   
As the first stop for Asian delegations participating in the Games, the Baiyun International Airport has seen its barrier-free facilities completely upgraded. Blind sidewalks in terminals fall into two categories, namely, exterior sidewalks made of stainless steel and interior ones made of rubber. Walking on the sidewalks, Mayor Wan carefully checked whether they were up to international standards. As representative from the airport said, the barrier-free facilities had been designed and built in strict accordance with standards applied to international airports, Mayor Wan said: "Well done! The sidewalks are up to international standards".

Mayor Wan said that barrier-free facilities constituted one of the symbols of an international city and were essential to Guangzhou's development into a "city of care and love". He said that the facilities were a prerequisite to a successful Asian Para Games.
