Guangzhou's annual local tax revenues are expected to exceed the 100-billion-yuan mark in 2011 for the first time, announced local tax bureau chief Luo Yuhong on December 28 during a briefing with deputies to the city's people's congress.
According to Mr. Luo, Guangzhou's local tax revenues will continue to rise with the city's economic growth next year; the local tax bureau is expected to collect 84.5 billion in tax revenues next year, up 12 percent from this year, while the branches of the provincial tax bureau will collect approximately 10 billion yuan in taxes from Guangzhou. These taxes, plus deed taxes, farmland occupation taxes, and urban construction taxes levied on foreign enterprises and expatriates, will bring the total amount of the city's tax revenues next year to more than 100 billion yuan.
Since October 2009, social insurance premiums have been collected exclusively by the local tax bureau. In this year through November, Guangzhou's social insurance premiums collected increased 12.1 percent year-on-year to 38.1 billion yuan, with a collection rate of 98 percent. In response to public complaints about certain enterprises' failure to pay social insurance premiums for the employees, some deputies to the city's people's congress said that a legislative motion will be proposed at the annual session of the people's congress next year to protect the rights and interests of the vulnerable group of people. |
