i Total Logistics
In 2009, the gross freight delivered at Guangzhou City climbed by 5.91 percent to 525 million tons. Among them, the railway freight reached 64 million tons, the sea freight 84 million tons, the road freight 370 million tons, the air cargo 681.8 thousand tons, and the pipeline freight 7.278 million tons. Currently, there are a total of about 145 thousand Guangzhou-registered operating trucks in the city, and each day other trucks entering and leaving Guangzhou reach up to 100 thousand.
ii Airport Logistics
In 2009, the passenger throughput of Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport increased by 10.8 percent to 37.05 million, and the cargo and mail throughput rose by 31.33 percent to 1.222 million tons. In 2009 the Baiyun International Airport opened 23 international and regional routes. The cumulative regular international (regional) routes were 79, and the domestic routes 199. Air logistics industry developed rapidly. In February 2009 FedEx Asia-Pacific Trans-shipment Center was officially operated, where each week a total of 16 international cargo routes and 136 cargo planes enter and leave Baiyun Airport, to or from more than 220 countries and regions.

In 2009, the cargo throughput of Guangzhou port increased by 1.64 percent to 376 million tons, and the port container throughput reached 11.302 million TEUs. The container throughput and the cargo throughput of the whole Port were respectively ranked as third and fourth among the nation’s coastal ports. Nansha Port Area of Guangzhou Port opened 29 container liner routes, including 21 foreign trade routes, and 8 domestic trade routes. In 2009 the annual container throughput climbed by 2.68 percent to 6.56 million TEUs, accounting for 58.04 percent of the total container throughput of the whole Port.
Iv The Construction of Bonded Logistics System
Currently, Guangzhou has five special regulatory regions and sites of bonded logistics as well as 40 bonded warehouses and export supervision warehouses of all kinds, where more than 800 companies and enterprises have settle down. Among them, the foreign investment of about USD 700 million dollars has been made to help form a function-improved bonded logistics system with a relatively complete set of categories.
V The Development of Third-party Logistics Enterprises
In 2009, in Guangzhou, as many as 41 logistics enterprises won the State A-class enterprise certification, increased by 37 percent compared to the previous year. In this aspect, Guangzhou tops the second in the national central cities. IIThe Park Construction
Guangzhou will rely on Guangzhou Nansha and Huangpu port areas and Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport to build an international hub logistics park, and set up a special monitoring area of bonded logistics and Asian Logistics Center.
i Nansha International Logistics Park
An international logistics hub with the main part of international logistics supplemented by regional logistics is to be constructed. As the only large-scale deepwater port area of Guangzhou Port, Guangzhou Port Nansha Port Area is one of the largest ocean-going ports along China’s southern coasts, where ten 100,000-ton deepwater ports have been completed. Nansha Bonded Port Phase-I with an area of 3.70 square kilometers, approved by the State Council, was officially closed off and put into operation on August 31, 2009, where such functions as foreign trade, international procurement, distribution and delivery, international transit, testing and after-sales maintenance, processing and manufacturing are covered.
ii Huangpu International Logistics Park
The Park is located in the east of Guangzhou City, with a total land area of 5.35 million square meters. The water transportation mainly relies on Guangzhou Huangpu Port Area and Xinsha Port Area. The land transportation includes the Canton-Kowloon Railway, Guangzhou-Shenzhen Highway, and Canton-Park East Fast Line and others; The air transportation contains a direct highway connection with the new Baiyun International Airport. Guangzhou Bonded Logistics Park is located in Guangzhou Bonded Zone with the planning area of 0.507 square kilometers. The main functions include international transfer, international distribution, international procurement and international entrepot trade and simple processing.
iiiGuangzhou Airport International Logistics Park
The Park is situated in the north of Guangzhou City, close to Guangzhou New Baiyun International Airport. The Airport has a total of more than 50 international air lines, with more than 300 international flights per week; The Airport has more than 120 domestic air lines, to and fro more than 100 cities. After settling down in the Park, Federal Express Asia-Pacific Transshipment Center has been officially put into operation; Guangzhou Airport Bonded Logistics Center was officially closed off and put into operation on January 28, 2010
IIIDevelopment Priorities
Six-year efforts will be made to accelerate the construction of the bonded logistics system, to shape airports, seaports, roads, railways compound concentrated high-end modern logistics base. In the port logistics industry, the policy advantages of Nansha Bonded Port Area will be fully played to optimize the layout of Guangzhou Port Area. In 2015, 22 deep-water berths concerning container, coal, food, petrochemical, and others will be built, when the port cargo throughput will exceed 500 million tons and the container throughput will reach 20 million TEUs; For the airport logistics, the focal work will be on the airport expansion and construction of the integrated transport interchange hub to create Guangzhou Baiyun Compound Aviation Hub. Backed up by the airport construction and development, the diversified development of air passenger transport, logistics and warehousing business will be carried out to promote the development of the aircraft maintenance bases for China Southern Airlines, Shenzhen Airlines, Hainan Airlines and other base airlines, and ST Aerospace and other planes; For the land logistics industry, by 2015, the city’s opened rail transit line mileage will have reached more than 400 kilometers while by 2020, the city’s opened urban rail transit network mileage will have exceeded 600 kilometers; In the aspect of road support, by 2012 the total mileage of the expressways in the city will be up to 980 kilometers, with the total mileage of fast routes of 425 kilometers; In terms of the international logistics park, Guangzhou Airport International Logistics Park will focus on the development of the major international air logistics value-added services; Huangpu International Logistics Park will include the main introduction of third-party logistics business-based logistics enterprises; Nansha International Logistics Park will dominate the development of shipbuilding, iron and steel, automobile and port industry matched storage services, value-added processing, materials distribution, sorting, international transit, international trade, international procurement and other logistics industry and ocean transportation.
