Guangzhou boasts of intensive human resources which can fulfill the needs of various enterprises. According to the statistics of Guangzhou Human Resources, at present, it is estimated that 1.8 million residents have received college or higher education and 1.9 million ones are skilled manpower, together with 200,000 capable farmers, 20,000 overseas students, and 800,000 enrolled students. There are about 24,000 higher educated people (including students at colleges or universities) for a population of one hundred thousand citizens, which enables Guangzhou, correspondingly, to rank the first among the capital cities nationwide. To be exact, about 150,000 have been awarded master degree; around 140,000 received senior technical titles. Meanwhile, the gross rate of college enrollment is 65 percent and the average period of schooling is 13 years. Thus, the ratio of postgraduates, undergraduates, and specialist personnel has been renewed to be 8.5:43.4:48.1, while the proportion made up by senior, middle and junior specialists, accordingly, become 12:38:50.
In the first half of the year 2009, the total number of both supplied and demanded human resources in Guangzhou was 1.607 million, among which the laborers in demand and supply respectively were 823,000 and 784,000. According to the characteristics of job hunters, the proportion of male and female is 7:3, and the laborers under the age of 34 made up 50.1 percent, among whom more than 20 percent have technical ranks or titles.
The Asian Games provides job opportunities for medium-level and senior management personnel, which will speed up optimizing the structure of human resources in Guangzhou.
